Quote: Verisign has bought up a lot of companies too, like Thawte, Network Solutions, CyberCash, PaymentNet/Signio, and many others. Does that mean eBay will own those companies too, including Network Solutions? If so, wow. They\\\'re going to take over the Internet. I used to say that about Verisign when they were doing exactly what eBay is doing now.
This is definitely something that needs to be looked at.However, the articles I've read said they bought the payment processing part of verisign... so I don't know how much of verisign they bought and if it includes these other companies.
If it did, ebay would be the most powerful corporation on the planet.

don't hold your breath... there was serious objections to the ebay/paypal deal and the gov. approved it with hardly a discussion about it.

<Angela>, I think you are right. We need someone with more knowledge to come up and organize a petition and write to the fed. Maybe the webmaster can find someone.

We're furious about this deal. We're long-time Verisign clients and would NEVER trust Paypal with our customers' credit card information. In fact, we've told customers for years that we refuse to do business with paypal because of their bad reputation. Now we'll be forced to do business with that horrid company until we pay our developers thousands to completely revamp our purchasing database to accomodate a new merchant service.
The "deal" hasn't been approved by the feds yet. Who can we write to and submit a complaint and objection?

ebay/paypal to buy verisign
http://money.cnn.com/2005/10/10/technology/ebay_verisign.reut/index.htm
Just like how ebay bought up all the competition, now they are doing the same with the PayPal end.
Your choices are getting smaller folks....
PayPal already has an established gateway. The reason they are making this buy is to stiffle the competition.... oh, and then there's this....
Quote:
As a result of the deal, PayPal said the payment-gateway business is expected to generate an incremental $100 million of revenue for it in 2006.
