PayPal CLAIMS to fight chargebacks, but read this... |

<helene oba>, I hope what I write does not qualify as abusive, but after reading the above post from a Paypal customer service representative, I just had to point out that, in addition to all the other points your site has made, that Paypal seems to hire illiterates as well. I don't know if she was trying to say that we do not know know what we are talking about, or that we do, but her typos speak volumes if she is trying to critisize the work done by your site. I have not had any problems with Paypal to date, but your site has definately given me something to seriously think about.

Quote: <dud>, ebay owns Paypal, so if you are doing business with ebay, you are doing business with Paypal.
Many of us have and continue to pull further away from ebay as a result of them
owning pp and creating this monopoly.
Feebay itself is really in dyer straight these days IMO.
The stock is down.
Many long timers (buyers and sellers) are not happy and NOT returning.
Feebay keeps doing more and more counter productive stuff pushing more and more further away.
They keep investing in risky ventures and many of us believe they have been cooking the books for some time now.
So many things to really look at.
The best advice I can give is to get a web site up and running and USE feebay to drive traffic to you.
Sooner or later feebay will be cracked. It really is up to all of us to make that happen
by supporting other venues and getting out there on your own.
It can be done. I have had a website for many years and my feebay presents is minimal now.
More sales at the site than feebay ever gave and I get to KEEP my profits not give 2/3 back to feebay in fees. LOL IT CAN BE DONE people IT CAN BE DONE.

<FreshlyPhukd>, I totally agree with you but you know, I have learned long ago that there will always be people that can only learn the hard way! The genius of how paypal is able to stay in business while still paying out their many lawsuits is simply that they can always say \"well we don\'t cheat everyone!\" With that many people willing to chance their money, I guess you don\'t have to!

Helene, you are parroting back a rationalization that PayPal has taught its employees for almost six years: "it's in our user agreement so it's their fault for not reading it."
Helene, you probably aren't aware that were times that PayPal changed its TOS more than dozen times in one month. Over a course of a period of a few years, PayPal changed its TOS more than 250 times.
Many times, parts of the TOS were illegal. Many times, PayPal ignored its own TOS and then abruptly changed it.
Being aware of the PayPal TOS was almost impossible, not considering that most consumers, including yourself, do not have the time to read thousands of lines of every credit card TOS, financial account, and on and on. Most people rely on the summary of information provided and most financial institutions are reliable and regulated enough that consumers know what their rights are. With PayPal, its site information, online help and marketing have almost always contradicted, exaggerated or misled consumers as to their actual rights.
I would agree that in its current form, your TOS guarantees practically nothing - and yet your marketing and onsite information still gives a distinctly different message.
I understand that you do want to not feel bad about where you work, but I don't think you'd be happy if one day your credit card was stolen and you were told "see line 3374743a(b)7 of your TOS. You owe us $3700." That doesn't happen because of a dedication by the government and financial institutions that make most banking and financial transactions very solid and generally safe. PayPal is not safe and it seems that you in a way concur by saying that the user should read the TOS, top to bottom (in which case they'd know that PayPal is extremely risky to use and may cause a user to incure significant losses).
Yet, PayPal's message to consumers is completely the opposite.
Why do you think that is, Helene?

<WHAT!>, I just got screwed by paypal. Sold an 800.00 item on ebay. Buyer gets it and 15 days later "claims" its not exactly as described. Paypal send me an email telling me of his complaint...so I log into Paypal to find the $$ already being held. Now they tell me its in review. I have had 2000 Paypal transactions, I have 3500 ebay positives and 1 neg. from 2 years ago and "I" am the scammer and "I" am the one they are going to go against in this matter and take my money?????????? The buyer has a whole 24 ebay feedback and reaks of a scammer in his buying habits. Within 2 days of winning my item he bough one identical that is broken for 100.00 hmmmmmmm seems fishy he would buy mine for 800.00 and then a broken one for 100.00 now say mine is not as stated and he wants his 800.00 back. PAYPAL SUCKS If you are reading this and have never had an issue with paypal just wait, your time is coming and then you will say "gee those complaainers on the site were right afterall" Get out while the gettins good and before it costs you a bunch. Thanks

User23, it doesn't really matter what PayPal says or does. They are simply a "middle-man" between the credit card company and you. If the buyer decides to initiate a charge-back...what will you do?
PayPal will hold you accountable for the funds. Even if you've followed the SPP to a T, they won't honor it. They'll dig through their infinite amount of loopholes until they find one they can throw at you. Then what will you do?

<Anonymous>, As a seller on eBay I shipped my first large priced item today. It sold for $1,700.00. They paid via PayPal and the transaction was an "Instant Payment". I shipped to their confirmed address via UPS with tracking information and insurance (they would only cover $999.00). My PayPal transactions page said this item was eligible for the "Seller Protection Policy". According to the SPP, the buyer has to sign for the item being shipped because it was over $250.00. While creating the shipping label on PayPal, I did not see any option to request a signature. I'm assuming this is automatic. Can anyone tell me if I've missed any steps? By the way, I have 2000+ positive feedback and my buyer has 400+ positive feedback.

<Tim>, Here is another typical "paypal adventure". My account has been frozen say now going on "2 years" and I have continued to call and have sent countless emails asking them to CLOSE THE ACCT IMMEDIATELY. Below is their most recent request to update my acct info again. Just as a side note, I have just received a settlement from one of the class action suits and yet about every 60 days I continue to get this same email so in case anyone really thinks that paypal actually gives your calls and emails any importance, for your reading pleasure below:

PaypalSucks,
Well After two hours of reading all of the posts on this string. I would just like to that the people who have spent the time posting to really give an honest account of the problems paypal can cause. I have used Paypal for yrs and have been lucky enough not to have these problems but I can see how quickly and easily you can get them.
Thanks - Tom

Thanks Emily,
I agree there is a wide range of problems and personalities here. Some of it is for comic relief, some to forwarn others, and some to find solutions. Glad you find the site informative, that's one big feather for us. :-)
